Rice is one of the basic ingredients of cooking. In Mexico, we are very accustomed to using white rice but the nutritionists’ recommendation is clear: the consumption of brown rice is preferable since it contains more fiber, more vitamins, and more minerals.
But Prepare Brown Rice at home may seem like a challenge since being harder requires a greater amount of water and a longer cooking time. However, knowing these two facts, doing so is as easy as preparing any other type of rice.

The secret to preparing a good Prepare Brown Rice is the amount of water. Ideally, for each cup of rice, we occupy 3 cups of water. Our first step will be to wash and soak our rice in enough water to cover it, for a minimum of 15 minutes.
Next, in a saucepan with a lid, we will heat a tablespoon of olive oil; in this, we fry the onion and garlic finely chopped. When the onion is translucent we add the rice and let it brown for a few minutes, so that it releases its aroma.
Then add the 450 ml of water or broth (3 cups) and uncovered, let it cook over medium heat until it boils. Once it does, cover the pan and lower the heat to a minimum. Let cook for 35 minutes or until the rice is cooked. If there is plenty of water, drain it and return it to the saucepan, out of the fire, and let it rest for 10 minutes.
With what to accompany brown rice
We can serve brown rice like any other rice. If we wish, in the last 10 minutes of cooking we can add chopped vegetables, corn kernels or butter. If we want to serve it that way, naturally, it is a good idea to add some chopped cilantro and place some lemon slices before serving.
